The author of one of my favorite books on yoga and health, Dr. Timothy McCall, just released a list of all health related issues that have been proved, through science, to be positively affected by yoga. He also shares a great literature list!

If you are interested in learning more about any of the medical conditions, I highly recommend exploring some of those sources. Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) are generally seen to provide a statistically better picture of the truth, but remember to get a full view of all studies on the topic. We tend to have a biased view of scientific “truth” because we wish to find evidence that supports what we believe. Remember that yoga may not always be the best solution to all health problems. When that is said, it is great that the medical field has been exposed to an increasing number of scientific articles about yoga as an alternative to medicines and other treatment options.

A physical and mental practice

This is especially true for those that have tried traditional medicines and visited a great number of doctors without any improvement. Yoga offers not only a physical practice that changes hormones, muscles, bone structures and nerves, but also a practice in awareness, observation and acceptance, which should not be underestimated as an important health component.

Interested in learning more, but don’t feel like decoding statistics to do so, you can browse through Yoga Science’s own scientific articles, which are based upon a great variety of RCTs but simply put together so that anyone could understand the evidence.
